[DCP-29] ⚛️ Progressive Decentralization Workstream (Q4.24 Budget)

by Progressive Decentralization team

Summary

Over the past six months, the DappRadar Foundation has made substantial progress through the Progressive Decentralization Workstream (PDW), advancing the operations and revenues of the DappRadar DAO. This proposal reflects on the key activities, achievements, revenues, and payments related to these efforts, ensuring that the DAO’s mission continues to scale. The PDW has played a crucial role in formalizing legal, financial, and governance structures while promoting the engagement of DAO contractors and contributors.

Motivation

The goal of accelerating Progressive Decentralization remains at the core of DappRadar’s mission to establish the world’s first community-owned and operated Dapp Store. This proposal seeks to review the activities of the first epoch of PDW, highlighting the operational and strategic contributions made over the past six months and setting the stage for continued decentralization efforts through a requested budget.

Assessment (Q2 and Q3 2024 Budget)

The achievements of the Progressive Decentralization Workstream over the last six months include:

1. Establishing Governance & Legal Frameworks

  • DAO Constitution and By-laws: Initiated the drafting of these documents to solidify governance.
  • Legal Agreements: Finalized the second key agreement, the Access Agreement, granting the DAO rights to utilize the platform and IP of DappRadar UAB at an arms-length royalty rate.
  • Policies: Developed the service provider and contributor onboarding process including KYC. Successfully onboarded the first contributors and additional providers.

2. Operational & Strategic Milestones

  • Operational Framework: Designed the DAO Operations framework, setting KPIs and reporting obligations.
  • Onboarding Programs: Created onboarding processes for DAO participants and DappRadar UAB employees, ensuring a smooth transition into DAO operations.
  • Project Monitoring Systems: Set up mechanisms to monitor workstream progress against agreed-upon KPIs.

3. Financial System Setup

  • Accounting and Reporting: Implemented reliable accounting policies and processes, allowing for accurate financial tracking and reporting.
  • Financial Modeling: Improved models for RADAR treasury balances and emissions, assessing buying/selling pressure on the token.
  • Profit and loss:
    1. Total Revenue: $213,860
    2. Costs: $87,959
  • RADAR Buy-back Program: Executed strategies for RADAR buy-backs to strengthen the token’s market position.

4. Community Engagement & Governance

  • Frameworks for Community Voting: Designed structures that allow for decentralized governance and community-led proposals.
  • Feedback Channels: Created formal processes for collecting community feedback on protocol improvements and product suggestions.
  • PRO members: Used multiple marketing approaches to build the PRO members from 684 to 907.

5. Partnership & Ecosystem Expansion

  • Strategic Partnerships: Built relationships with other decentralized projects to foster collaboration and integration into the DappRadar ecosystem.
  • Development of DappLaunch Selection Committee: Group that reviews DappLaunch pipeline and recommends projects
    1. BNB, Polkastarter, DappRadar DAO, Lunar Strategy, Crypto Potato, Chainwire
  • Development of DappLaunch partner network: Group that provides value to the ecosystem via services, credits, consulting for projects
    1. 20+ confirmed partners including OKX, AWS, Fjord Foundry
  • Ecosystem Development: Implemented integration strategies that enabled seamless collaboration with partners.

6. Transparency & Accountability

  • Reporting Mechanisms: Implemented transparency measures across workstreams, ensuring regular reporting on performance and budget allocation.
  • Key Performance Indicators: Monitored progress through well-defined KPIs related to decentralization, operational efficiency, and ecosystem growth.

Performance Metrics

  • Decentralization Roadmap Progress: Demonstrated success in meeting decentralization milestones, with further goals outlined for the upcoming period.
  • Operational Efficiency: DAO operational framework completed, with contractors and contributors onboarded and executing on tasks.
  • Community Participation: Measured increases in voting and proposal feedback, indicating growing community engagement.
  • Partnership & Ecosystem Development: New strategic partnerships and integrations achieved, driving ecosystem growth including scaling DappLaunch.
  • User Growth & Retention: Increased user activity and retention as a result of successful decentralization efforts.

Budget/Duration

This proposal reviews the previous 6-month period and lays out the strategic vision for the next six months. A quarterly review process will be established to assess progress and adjust as needed. The budget allocation reflects the work completed and anticipates upcoming needs for the PDW.

Congratulations for the achievements in the last 6 months! It hasn’t been easy, but progress is clear and substantial. I know there were more things we wanted to achieve in this time, but the results are impressive either way.

We should have some transparency as to the objectives for the next 6 months. Do we continue on the same path to decentralization? What do we hope to achieve next?

That being said, the budget is realistic and what I’ve always loved about DappRadar is how careful they are with the spending. It’s good to see the trend continue, scaling up in a thoughtful way.

Bayar, just a DAO member.

Knock, knock! This proposal is ending soon. Yesterday, we had an insightful session with Nathan and Marcin, covering the proposal topic and providing a general update on the DAO. It was packed with interesting details!

I’m eager to see this proposal approved on Snapshot. As we’ve discussed many times, the DAO community’s growth truly begins with a workstream like this, establishing a strong framework through our DAO Contributors. Looking forward to getting that blue tick for the DAO X account too!

Check out the recording :point_right: HERE :point_left: for the full session.

Recording Summary:

In this DAO Finance workshop, Nathan, Marcin, and Skirmantas guide us through the latest updates and ambitions for the DAO’s growth and RADAR token utility. They explore the journey of the Progressive Decentralization workstream, the only active one in the DAO, which has shaped the operational framework over the past six months. The team provides transparency into how revenue flows into the DAO—from node validators, staking, and affiliate revenues to new micro-payments.

As the conversation unfolds, Nathan shares the vision behind DappLaunch, a platform designed to attract new projects and drive demand for the RADAR token. By encouraging projects and service providers to hold RADAR, DappLaunch seeks to create sustainable utility for the token.

Finally, the team discusses their liquidity strategy across multiple chains, emphasizing efforts to make RADAR accessible beyond EVM. The aim is clear: to position RADAR as valuable across ecosystems and ensure seamless functionality for PRO members on various chains. This workshop offers a glimpse into the DAO’s journey towards a self-sustaining, community-driven dapp ecosystem.

It’s great to see the DAO making profits, let’s keep this going. I think the requested budget makes sense. However, I would also like to explore more aggressive opportunities as me move into 2025.

How do we establish growth, and what do we do with this growth? I would love to see the success of the DAO reflected in the RADAR token price: In short, buybacks? But also think along the lines of special deals for DAO members / participants, i.e. in investment rounds for projects in DappLaunch (just thinking out of the box here).

In terms of the budget. I’d love to see a commitment for a hackathon where the developer community gets invited to build upon our API. Now we have $6,900 for community initiatives, I’d add $20k-$50k there to create this building event.

Nonetheless, I approve the budget proposal as it is. But would like to see the full proposal to reflect benefits for RADAR token holders, and (my personal wish) to see a budget for a hackathon or something along those lines.
